Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) can be found in many tissues in the body. For Orthopedic Regenerative Medicine, they are found primarily in bone marrow and adipose (fat).
The doctor extracts the MSCs from the patient’s own body-either through a bone marrow aspiration (BMA) or a fat tissue aspiration. These cells are then concentrated using an FDA approved device which helps remove unnecessary elements from the aspirate. The BMA is injected into an injured part of the body where it then begins a healing process of the injured tissue.
This process meets the FDA requirement of “minimally processed” and the FDA definition of the practice of medicine.
